Remote Sensing Retrieval of Total Nitrogen in the Pearl River Delta Based on Landsat8

The Pearl River Delta in South China is subject to severe eutrophication, which significantly exacerbated by the total nitrogen (TN). Remote sensing technology with large-scale synchronous observations can effectively monitor organic pollution. Statistical methods based on remote images have been widely used water quality parameter retrieval for inland rivers, reservoirs, and lakes, but seldom applied Delta. TN also a non-optically active substance, so it difficult retrieve through analysis methods. This study retrieves concentration of (TN) Landsat8 using statistical method. stepwise regression function built analyzing single-band, two-band, three-band spectral information groups measured an ASD FieldSpec3 spectrometer. results show that proposed method performs well small mean absolute error (MAE) (0.36 mg/L TN) high agreement (R2 = 0.61 between situ data concentration. demonstrate east was higher than west. Dachan Bay Shenzhen had highest concentrations, were around 3.02 3.67 mg/L. 750–850 nm band could be important reference further exploring characteristics TN. this easy implement convenient local distribution capture, provide timely daily supervision management
